Starting College: What You Should Invest Your Money In

1: Computer: Surprisingly you will need a computer when you go to college. You can of course manage without, but in todays techno based world its gonna be a struggle. You do not need a big expensive computer, go for something light weight as you will be caring it to class each day.. Or you can actually do like me and buy an ipad to type your notes on. Other than that I would just like to add that Mac book air is amazing.

2: Bike: I go to a university that does not allow cars to drive on campus. That means a lot of walking, despite the fact that a lot of the classes are in different buildings across campus. If you are going to a similar university I would recommend buying a bike so you dont turn up 5 minutes late to every single class you have.

3: Microsoft word: There are hundreds of way to get this for free, but if you are really nontechnical and just have a lot of money then you should definitely invest in Microsoft word. Lets face its: there is nothing that can quite compare to it.. sadly.

4: A School bag: If you are a little more health oriented then a backpack is probably a better option.

5: Underwear: Laundry sucks.. so buy underwear so you dont have to do your laundry every week. Seriously, best advice my mom gave me!

Sorority Initiation

On Sunday and Monday we had the initiation of our new sorority members. Because I cant tell you how our sorority initiation process is, I am gonna make up a similar stories based of how I have heard other sororities and fraternities does it.

Disclaimer: This is all fiction.

On sunday night all new members are told to close their eyes and have them remained close until we tell them to open them. While their eyes are closed we hold their hands and guide them onto a waiting bus that takes them to a silent location away from the university. Surrounded by dark we hold the girls hands and make sure their eyes remain closed until we get to the location.

TI1Arriving at the location the girls are taken off the bus and guided into a garden and then told to sit down on the ground. When we tell them to open their eyes all the old members of the sorority stand in front of them holding candles singing our secret song. We read old writings from the founding sisters of the sorority back in the end of 1800.

tumblr_lwdeppOxaK1qjodxzThen each new members is given a stone scripted with our sorority letters. they are told to hold onto it until the continued ceremony the next day.

The next days the sorority house is closed off from new members. They have to come at 4 pm and stand outside until we come and get them. Windows are closed off and lights shut off so the whole house is complete dark except from the few candles burning. We are dressed in greek like costumes, wearing no make up and have our hair put in simple buns. Signifying the purity of our chapter.

screen-shot-2011-11-25-at-18-49-21When the girls are let in we all remain silent guiding them to a room where they are told to dress in similar dresses as us. When dress they receive a headpiece that is tied to their head in a way that indicate that they are not yet initiated. We also were our headpiece, but in a way indicating that we are initiated.

We take each girl to the ceremony room. Tell them to close their eyes while we silently sit behind them. Once they open their eyes the lights are out except the candels held by our officers and president. The president reads from the book the importance of our chapter, while we all sing songs in greek.

Sorority-InitiationThen each new members stand up and recieve her words of recognition and are given the biggest secret of our chapter and the meaning of it. Before one of the officers position their had indicated that they have now become initiated members of our chapters.

A day in my sorority life

I am trying to force myself to wake up at 8 every day and today was not easy guys.. I successfully made it out of my bunk bed 30 min after the alarm rang (which is guess is only relatively bad).

One of my friends were so kind to take this picture of me outside our sorority house. Our red door is famous and do you see the lantern hanging over it? its supposedly guides symbolize how lanterns would guide sailors to safe harbors. I think its cute!

Vegas Invite

I am sorry that I only post pictures from our sorority and fraternity events here at USC, but its always the events that I end up taking pictures as soo.

This last weekend we went to Vegas for USCs fraternity invites. I got invited almost two months ago by this random guy (lets call him Jack) over a text message. I had no idea who he was, but I met him a week later at another event and because he was really sweet I went along with the idea of going with him to Vegas.

Vegas for the fraternities happens once a year. Each of the 15 fraternities at USC take a date to Vegas where they cover everything from the hotel room to drinks for their dates. This is their most formal invite and something all sorority girls wish to go to (FREE TRIP TO VEGAS). Its kinda cute because the guys spend weeks trying to find the best date to go with cause they are gonna spend a lot of money and time on their date.

Here is a few pictures to get you guys excited for the rest of the story haha!

How to prepare for a new semester

Okay, you have stuffed yourself with so much Christmas food that you are seriously starting to doubt your body will ever return to its normal state before cabo springbreak, your mom is starting to secretly hope you and your mess will depart soon, you have heard all of the different versions of uncle Phil’s stories from when he was in college, and grandmas kisses have gone from being annoying to something you openly fear! Thank God the holidays are over! Here’s the guide on how to prepare yourself for yet another semester:

1: delete old mail if you are like me and never delete any of your mail in your student email, now is the time to do so. Start your semester with a clean slate and an empty mailbox! Your New Years resolution should also be to keep it nice and clean throughout!

2: order your books and also sign up for classes if you have not done so.. Never buy your books at the book store, learn that Amazon is your new best friend! Another idea is to also email the professor and ask he if has any extra books he is willing to lend out!

3: wash all your cloths nothing is more annoying than washing cloths in college. It takes time, effort and sometimes money.. So wash your cloths at home and arrive on campus with an entirely clean wardrobe almost as good as new!

Not this kinda calender..

Not this kinda calender..

4: get a calendar and use it! My mom buys me a calendar every year and because of my goldfish memory I always use it! I swear I have been getting better grades after I started using it!

5: check where your classes are I always do the mistake of being too late for my first class cause I have no idea where it’s at! So please get a map and find out where your classes are before semester starts!

Do you have any great ideas for how to start your semester?? Post them here!
